HIGHLIGHTS: ASSIGNMENT OF THE ISSN

Due to the international significance of the institutional repositories and the documental databases classed as Continuing Resources, The International centre of periodicals (part of UNESCO), which assigns the ISSN standard identification number (CIEPS-ISSN), has decided to assign the ISSN code to those repositories which constitute a knowledge database.

On Friday 9th July 2010 AMS Acta was assigned the international ISSN code. The assignment has been granted on the basis of a ruling issued in Paris, at UNESCO, during the general Assembly of CIEPS-ISSN (one of UNESCO's divisions) which has taken place on 27th-28th April 2010. On 1st June the CIEPS-ISSN has approved the assignment of the code to Alm@DL repository and the Italian National centre has then provided the two codes to the two University bibliographical repositories: AMS Acta and AMS PhD theses. Both repositories are the first in Italy to be credited with this acknowledgement.

The ISSN allows the authors to present the works included in AMS Acta as research contributes which can be valued for institutional purposes and facilitate, together with the unique and permanent identification, the usage statistics.

The institutional repositories with ISSN will be registered in ACNP, this will make it possible to easily locate the repositories included within and the full texts. The connections and integrations to the national and international repositories will be facilitated and increased, both for the general or the specific subject repositories.

The CIB with its management (governing/academic bodies) and technical staff will take care of the issuing, the development and the management of the service. The scientific responsibilities will be disciplined, in addition to the contracts with the authors, in accordance with the decisions of the academic bodies, by the scientific committee and the research departments which make use of them.
